In Hot Pursuit

December 27, 2004

I trust everyone had a good and safe holiday. I also hope you got a good chunk of what you wanted. I know better than to say “all of what you wanted” because most of you have wish lists that rival the inventory list of a local gamestore. At any rate, I have 2 completely off topic things to talk about this morning.

For starters, our very own Wampa proposed to his girlfriend on Christmas morning. Mega-congrats to them and the new journey they are about to embark upon.

This second bit is a little on the strange side. Have you ever seen the Wildest Police Chase shows on tv? Do you ever wonder where those take place? Apparently they take place on IH-10 at about 10pm between here and Houston.

Sunday morning we went to Houston to visit some family and we left there about 7:20pm last night to head home. On our way up there we saw a good dozen or so State Troopers either waiting or in the process of writing tickets. A few hours into our return trip we saw a Sheriff whip across the median with his lights on almost hitting a car only to pull off onto the shoulder and stop as if he was waiting for someone. I checked my rearview mirror and saw 4-5 cops with lights on in both lanes behind us. I wasn’t sure what was going on so I slowed down and then I noticed a non-police car coming up in our lane very very fast. I pulled over as he sped by. At this point there were between 10 and 15 law enforment vehicles going well over 90 miles an hour chasing this guy. He decided it would be a good idea to create his own exit off the highway through a field as one crazy Trooper follows. Moments later several other police cars come zooming by and as we get back on the road and start driving again you can see them off in the distance at a stand still. I have yet to find the story on any of the local news sites but it was still kind of thrilling. At any rate, look for a burnt orange Honda Element in the Wildest Police Chase shows in a few years and it will probably be us.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

December 25, 2004

I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all my friends here at Snackbar. Wraith, Wampa, The Mrs., Jaxa, Grendel, Mr. Furious, the freaking list goes on. I love every single one of you and I hope that you and your families have a great Christmas. I want to thank all of you members at Snackbar who support us, and wish you the best Christmas ever. And one more thing, I want to thank all the armed forces, the men and women who are right now serving and are in harms way to give us the great gift of freedom. God Bless all of you and thank you. I Love You ALL!!!

Ghost Recon 2 for $20

December 23, 2004

If anyone is looking for a last minute gift, K-Mart has Ghost Recon 2 for $20. If you don’t have K-Mart then you should be able to get it price matched at Best Buy or Circuit City since it is advertised in their circular.

One of those weeks

December 21, 2004

Yes, it has been one of those weeks. It only makes sense that the week of Christmas everything has to break and go wrong at work. Nonetheless I have a few bits of news that kind of set me off.

First, everyone knows that EA bought off the NFL and while that has stirred up a storm of controversy, they tried to buy off the NBA as well. Too bad the EA Live series isn’t as dominant as the Madden series or it might be the only one. Luckily, the NBA rejected the offer. What other sports could EA be looking to lock into long term contracts? I expect all of them.

The second thing I want to rant about is “The Guy Game”. Apparently one of the co-eds they snapped a picture of while on Spring Break in Austin was only 17. Oops. I am all down for freedoms that enable developers to make games like this, but goodness guys. Our industry gets enough bad press without us generating anymore. The Austin based developer of the game is getting sued over the picture.

Also, you PSP fans may want to check out IGN’s guide on the PSP Battery Life. Times ranged from a mere 2 hours and 46 minutes while playing over the built in WiFi to a decent 10 hours and 39 minutes when acting as a music device with the screen off. I would expect that most of you using the screen at full brightness, speakers, and no WiFi would see about 3.5-4 hours of life.
