A Look Back: Dot's Take on 2004

Well, here we are. Once again, a new year has rolled around. Once again, I find myself wondering, "Where did the past year go?" Here is a look at a few of the highlights from the past year.

January 2004

  • Snackbar Games starts off a new year with big plans in mind. Cone announces his big plans for the Gamertag directory.

  • The big mystery with the Phantom begins…hey, wait. We still know nothing.

  • Cone and I buy our first house. We kiss lots of $$$ down to the drain to closing costs.

February 2004

  • Pickle goes MIA for a while due to Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles.

  • Nintendo GBA sales hit the 20-million mark in the United States.

  • We move into our new house, get a new puppy, and I get put on bed rest for high blood pressure (remember I was pregnant at this time last year).

March 2004

  • Cone moves us to our new style of forum. So pretty...

  • Infinium Labs decides to sue [H]ardOCP for lying about things they said in an article. ([H]ardOCP has just won that suit.)

  • I give birth to our baby boy, Ethan, on the last day of March. Yay!

April 2004

  • Cone and our good friend The Wraith slave many hours getting Xbox Live information to add to the Gamertag directory.

  • Sony announces that Jak 3 and Ratchet and Clank 3 will be the last in both of their series. I think I cried.

  • We adjust to the life of being parents. Why does getting no sleep due to partying and staying up late playing video games feel so different than getting no sleep due to taking care of a baby?

May 2004

  • Pretzel moves from the armpit of Texas (Houston) back home to the great city of San Antonio.

  • The guys at Penny Arcade announce "The Omega Collection"-over $15,000 worth of video game things to be given away at the first ever Penny Arcade Expo (PAX).

  • We lose our first child, our cat Riku, who gets hit by a car. It was very sad.

June 2004

  • Cone adds banner ads to the site so that we can start giving cool stuff away to our readers. We also start Project Snack to help out a family in our community who was robbed. This was a big month for us; we also have our Snackbar meet-up which was a huge success.

  • PS3 is starting to be rumored to sell somewhere around $500. Doom 3's release date is announced.

  • We go on vacation to Disneyland. Fun times.

July 2004

  • We start having a contest craze. Why? Beause we love you guys!

  • Doom 3 goes gold, and Nintendo announces the launch date and cost of the Nintendo DS.

  • I vow to never fly again after our retched adventure trying to get to San Diego.

August 2004

  • Cone "enhances" the site. That just means it works more smoothly for those running it and really has nothing to do with you.

  • Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow comes out, and we all spend massive amounts of time shooting people.

  • Pickle and Cone both turn 24.

September 2004

  • Pickle and Pretzel head out to Xtreme Gaming Café to play some mad PC games. Those guys are very supportive of our site and we like them too. Shawnbaby/Sexychocolatebaby goes to fight for our country.

  • Fable. Burnout 3. Enough said.

  • Ethan starts to crawl... fast.

October 2004

  • Cone announces that he will start his gaming PC/tech stuff series.

  • Donkey Konga impresses us. Halo 2 gets leaked…and people actually play it early. What fun is that?

  • I turn 22. Happy birthday to me.

November 2004

  • We go to the Halo 2 release at EB Games Huebner Oaks and have a great time and give away lots of cool stuff.

  • Halo 2's midnight release is big and broke every 24-hour sales record in the entire entertainment industry.

  • Thanksgiving comes around, and we do the family thing…that's about it for us. I think we got the plague at some point in time this month too. I have never been so sick.

December 2004

  • Cone starts putting all the GBA DS covers online to be printed so that we can all actually properly store our GBA games. We also put our first video online.

  • EA announces that they have exclusive use of all NFL player likenesses and stadiums. They then proceed to try and buy out the whole world.

  • We have Ethan's first Christmas and he is spoiled rotten. We also go to El Paso for New Year's Eve and barely make it to midnight. So that is where the past year has gone...

Well, there you have it-highlights from the past year. I know it isn't all of them and certainly not the most important. These were a few that meant something to me and to the site. I hope you all had a great year in 2004, and I am quite certain that 2005 is going to be the year of the milk carton.
