The Star Wars franchise is notorious for its crappy games. It's not very rare that a Star Wars game turns out to be a rip-off from another title put in a Star Wars costume and sold like it's hot stuff. Most of the games are pretty mediocre, with nothing interesting in them other than music and the Star Wars theme. Apprentice of the Force is no exception.

You play as Luke Skywalker in this GBA game, and it's a side-scrolling hack-and-slash game. You go all the way from Tatooine, where Episode IV starts, to the end of Episode VI.

As you go through your exciting adventure, you gain Force powers such as Healing (which gets useful during Episode VI), Force Push and two more. Before you get your lightsaber, you have your trusty blaster that you can keep using once you get your saber. Boss fights aren't too interesting, but the enemies vary from stormtroopers to Tusken raiders to Jabba's goons.

You also get to fly in an X-wing, or go on a landspeeder. I hated these-if you get motion sickness, you'll probably quit after the first bit in Episode IV. It's hard on the eyes and can make you dizzy quickly.

You can't save between levels. This is one of the dumbest things I've seen in a handheld game because you'll often only have a few minutes to play, while a level can last about half an hour. If you decide to quit, back to the beginning to the level with you! This was one of the major turnoffs.

Apprentice of the Force is not a very good game, but it shows how Star Wars can truly sell a mediocre game. Don't bother with this game since you can play much better Star Wars-oriented games that deal with the same area of time. Hell, watch the awesome movies! Shame … I thought this time around, I wouldn't get a mediocre Star Wars game. Perhaps of future handhelds.
