Before the review, let me tell you guys that I am a huge Spiderman fan. I like the films, love the comics and cartoons, and I think (with a few exceptions) the games are fantastic. Since Spiderman 2 was an excellent game for the big consoles (with the PC version being pure garbage), I was getting my hopes up for the PSP version. I was expecting the same ability to free-roam, with an all right story mode, and new extras …the perfect launch title and film adaptation. Instead, I was kicked in the nuts.
First of all, the controls suck. It's hard to control the game, especially when you're slinging webs. It's not like you're really doing that much, since the game is linear and mission-based. So long what people adored so much like free-roaming and web slinging around New York. Some of the levels are new but utterly useless.
Why there were new villains added is a mystery to me because they don't advance the story really, other than the bosses saying, ‘Oh, so-and-so told me to take care of you,' or something unimaginative. Boss fights were annoying, not fun, uncreative and just plain bad.
The graphics were all right-I would have just liked it better if everything was crisper. The cutscenes looked very nice, but too bad the cutscenes were better than the actual game. The FMVs are just atrocious … period. However, the sounds were not bad, with decent voice acting and pretty good music. The sound effects were nothing special.
The gameplay is pretty forgettable. You'll beat the game in a matter of few hours, and there is absolutely no reason to go back. Thanks to the awful camera, many boss fights will make you bald with frustration, and make you (want to) throw your highly expensive PSP against the wall.
Listen, don't buy this game, okay? If you want to play a Spiderman game, then play the one for the consoles and/or the new Ultimate Spiderman (why is there no PSP version for that?!). Stay away from this crappy port.
