Mass Effect 3 to feature four-player co-op mode

BioWare’s epic space RPG has always had squad-based combat, but up until now it’s been limited to AI partners. We’re hearing that the third installment could include a multiplayer component.

It’s hard to say at this point. There were a lot of rumors circulating about some kind of multiplayer feature in ME3, but those were quickly shot down. At the same time, EA believes single-played only games aren’t the way of the future for their company. I’m going to say it’s still a possibility either way, just not a likely one.

I highly doubt it. At most, it will have 3-player co-op to suit the 3-man squad style from the series, and even then, I can’t imagine the fights over who gets to play as Shepard that would arise from it.

How would this work? Would there be four Shepards? Would companions be playable? Would it even be connected to the main game at all, or would it be some separate entity like, say, Uncharted? There are lots of questions. At the moment, I’m completely unsure, but I’ll lean because I’m hopeful.

Wii U only supporting one Wii U controller on launch day

The torpedo taking down the hype of the upcoming Nintendo system was the revelation that, at least at the moment, there isn’t support for more than one of the new Wii U controllers. Will this be the case by launch, or will Nintendo work on letting it use more?

Andrew

Right now Nintendo has pretty much confirmed this. At the same time, there’s no way to tell if things will change or not; they still have over a year before the system is actually released.

Nintendo hasn’t been clear on this, but the lack of a proper response isn’t looking well. It wouldn’t be so much of a hit for Nintendo’s core single player titles, but games that focus on WiiU controller gimmicks and have multiplayer wouldn’t fare as well.

This is a horrible idea, as the four-controller thing is a great concept. That said, Nintendo has managed to stick to horrible ideas and turn them into workable business models. I hope things change by launch, but I won’t put it past them.

Shantae GBC to release on 3DS Virtual Console

WayForward, developer of the original Shantae on the Game Boy Color as well as its recent DSiWare sequel, says it’s working on releasing the original on the 3DS service. Will they find success?

Andrew

Apparently WayForward is doing their best to get the game released for those who never played it and have always wanted to. The sequel did very well for them on DSiWare, so why not give people a chance to play the original, if possible?

Gerry

Yes.

Graham

WayForward is small, and that’s my only concern, as they’re trying hard. That said, the one connection they seem to have is with Nintendo, as their DSiWare titles have been the highlight of the service. This should happen, unless something weird like licensing holds it up.
