First Impression: Prizefighter

June 19, 2008

Prizefighter was recently released and I’ve now had the pleasure of spending some time with the game as well sitting in on a recent conference call featuring the man himself, Don King.

I had every intention of sharing some information from the call with everyone, but trying to transcribe the answers that Mr. King gave was… well… difficult to say the least. He brings the meaning of verbose to a whole new level.

That said, I can’t remember the last time I played a boxing game so conceptually I am new to the genre. My first observation is that Prizefighter is tough. I’m having difficulty just winning a simple exhibition match, nevermind the career mode.

Character models are very crisp and the movements are very realistic. Controls are tight and responsive and only slow down as your boxer becomes fatigued.

I can’t speak to how it compares to the Fight Night series, but encompassing both in the ring and out of the ring action, Prizefighter may not actually have any direct competition.

Stay tuned for our full review.
