In North America, over 600,000 Nintendo Wiis were sold, which is pretty much all of the consoles. This translated to about $190 Million of profit for Nintendo.

You know, this is rather funny. Most consoles don’t turn profitable until late in their lifetime or not at all (see Xbox with minus $4 Billion), and here is Nintendo with the Wii, which has already generated almost $200 Million at launch only in North America. Insanity.

Editor’s Note: I am researching the $190M figure as it was sourced from a Hungarian gaming site.

Update: It appears that $190M of profit figure factors in consoles, accessories, and games. So it’s safe to say that all $190M is NOT all going to Nintendo.

Red Steel 2 coming

November 29, 2006

Though critically bashed, Red Steel was extremely successful at the cash registers (second after Zelda). Seeing this, Ubisoft is making a sequel to the game, once again for the Nintendo Wii. They hope to include an online multiplayer this time around too. Expect a review of the first game soon.

While there literally are not 1 million Al Pacino/Tony Montana wannabes running around, over 1 million copies of the game Scarface: The World Is Yours was sold worldwide, to everyone’s surprise. The game was released in October, 2006. Expect a review of the game soon on Snackbar.

Killzone 2 Episodic Content

November 27, 2006

Developer Guerilla revealed that Killzone 2, the much anticipated follow up to the PS2 hit, for the PS3 will feature downloadable bonus episodic content much like in Half Life 2. This brings up an interesting point.

Nowadays, developers are developing expansions/downloadable content before the actual game is out. Do you guys remember the days when you got a full game for a decent price, instead of an incomplete game at a higher price, with many (pretty much) mandatory things that you can buy, to make your experience full? Yeah, I miss those days.

As you know, the 360 has been a pretty big flop in Japan so far. It was obvious, that most of the games on the 360 will not appeal to the people over there… that is, until Blue Dragon came along. It’s about two weeks till the release of the game over there, and it is second on Famitsu’s most wanted list (beating titles such as Resident Evil 5, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Twilight Princess). Blue Dragon is also being released as a bundle pack there (see picture here and another here here, courtesy of Playasia.com and Gizmondo). It is only a matter of weeks till we see how the first killer app (by Japanese standards) does. Can Blue Dragon save the 360 from falling into Oblivion? We shall have to wait and see. Meanwhile, discuss your thoughts in our forums!
