EA announces NASCAR Kart Racing

EA has announced a new title in their NASCAR franchise and it represents a drastic change from previous titles. NASCAR Kart Racing features a fun and over the top racing experience that is sure to be a hit for the whole family.

NASCAR Kart Racing will feature 14 real world drivers and 10 fictional characters created by EA that run the full gamut of potential competitors for the NASCAR folks and include European drivers, Motocross drivers, and even a few female drivers. 2 of the real drivers will be mystery drivers that you can unlock in the game.

So far, the list of real world drivers includes:

  • Jimmie Johnson
  • Jeff Burton
  • Carl Edwards
  • Jeff Gordon
  • Tony Stewart
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr.
  • Kyle Busch
  • Kevin Harvick
  • Denny Hamlin
  • Matt Kenseth
  • Kasey Kahne
  • Elliot Sadler

The 24 available race layouts aren't your typical NASCAR stops. You'll be racing on freeways, deserts, and the back roads of some of the most famous NASCAR locations: Bristol, Daytona, Dover, and Talladega. Here is the full list of race layouts:

  • Bristol Motor Speedway
  • Cactus Pass
  • Daytona International Speedway
  • Dinosaur Canyon
  • Dover International Speedway
  • Junkyard
  • Patriot Park
  • Race Oil Harbor
  • Red Clay Run
  • Riverside
  • Talladega Superspeedway

NASCAR Kart Racing features a whole host of unique features. Some of the notable inclusions are a power up system featuring Bottle Rockets and Oil Slicks as well as the ability to earn boost by rubbing paint with your opponents.

NASCAR Kart Racing is due out on February 10th and will be available only for the Nintendo Wii. For more information, take a look at the official website.

I don't get into realistic racing games so this one has some real promise. I like the arcade/cartoon look of the characters and the game.
So... other than the world it takes place in, the only difference between this and Mario Kart is (justified) in-game advertising?

And, now that I poke around the site a bit, I see that an Ad is one of the power-ups! That's actually kinda hilarious. :)

Maybe. Although I find it a bit hard to believe that anyone would prefer a NASCAR Kart over Mario Kart... even a hardcore NASCAR fan. Why would they want all of the Kart-genre features instead of a straight-up NASCAR game?

If this were available on any other console (since MK is not) I'd agree more readily, but this is Wii-exclusive.
I guess my assumption was that a hardcore NASCAR fan probably didn't play Mario Kart.
