Playstation 3 delays

March 14, 2006

It’s not exactly news, but it seems pretty clear the PS3 is delayed until November in Japan. Is our delay in the US and Europe going to be even worse? Maybe I should get comfy with the tail end games on the current PS2.

I know we’re a games site, but we all want to keep track of the next-gen format war considering how closely it is tied into the next-gen gaming systems.

Arstechnica is reporting that the only surefire backer of HD-DVD has delayed the release of their first few videos. This means Toshiba HD-DVDs will be hitting the shelves with nothing to play on them! I’m a hardcore early adopter, but I’m already a little hesitant to choose between the two formats early, and even I’m not crazy enough to buy something that doesn’t actually do anything yet. Arstechnica points out that they will still have a lead over Blu-Ray and support from Microsoft, but we know MS will switch sides if this thing falters too much. Besides, we all know how well console add-ons do in the market. Certainly nothing is etched in stone for either side yet, but this is a huge blunder to start out with.

More 360s

March 13, 2006

My Gamermill notifications have gone from nothing to one or more e-mails a day recently. It seems a lot more places online are getting Xbox 360s in stock regularly. I also hear more reports of it being visible in stores. Let’s hope this is a solid trend, because one of my big turnoffs has been the inability to simply walk into a store and buy one of these things.

Nintendo is extending its players choice line to GBA. You all know the drill, classic sellers get rereleased to the shelves with a big discount. Having just bought a GameBoy Micro, I’m very happy to hear this. The games will be $20, which is only really a $10 discount, but I’m not complaining.

The first three games are Super Mario Advance (which is based on US Super Mario Bros 2), Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and Super Mario Advance 3 (Yoshi’s Island).
