Today’s gag post on Somethingawful is a send up of the horrible narcissistic otaku reviews that have become so popular as of late (classic example here). Personally, I hate that claptrap, and think it’s about time someone spent some time making fun of it. I don’t usually read game reviews to find out how much knowledge of Jpop somebody has accumulated. Remember, some areas of Somethingawful aren’t exactly safe for work, but then again you wouldn’t be reading funny parodies of otaku reviews at work anyways, right?

Here is a wonderful translation of a Japanese article on Shadow of the Colossus. Although the unique gameplay has gotten most of the attention, there’s a lot of really nice graphics technology there. Even if you aren’t a fan of the game, you should read the article to see just how developers are producing great effects out of the tail end of the current generation.
Neat stuff on HDR, shadowing, fur textures, blurs and all kinds of visual effects.

I’m sure a few of you know there is an official Final Fantasy soft drink called “Potion” in Japan. Well, wacky soft drinks meet wacky advertising in this clip. Not like this is anything unusual in Japan, but now it involves Final Fantasy. Have fun:

IGN has screens of Lego Star Wars II, and they are sweet. The first game was completely awesome, espescially in the visuals category, and the sequel isn’t about to buck the trend if these screenshots are any indication. I’m totally psyched!

Long lines, system shortages, and lots of money for Nintendo is the news today. The DS Lite launched to massive crowds, and apparently sold out quickly. Not much else to say, except I hope they are able to ramp up production soon.
