SEGA to make new Alien games

December 11, 2006

Not a whole lot of Alien games have been coming out recently (whether that’s good or bad, is for you to decide), but it seems that is going to change. SEGA has acquired the rights to the Aliens franchise. An FPS and and RPG are planned for PC as well as next generation consoles (shouldn’t that be called “current generation”?).

Personally, I think these could be done well. An FPS that would utilize the Wii’s controls for some cool mini-games (like, devour marines with the tongue in tongue mouth thing using the Wiimote).

The following information originated in Game Informer, and no official news has arrived from Nintendo as of yet. Treat this as you wish.

-The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass for the Nintendo DS has been delayed an entire year. There have been rumors that major changes need to be in the game, which was first shown at E3. The game was supposed to come out this October, but if the rumors are true, we will have to wait until next holiday season to get our hands on some Duel Screen action with Link.

-A new Zelda, this one for the Wii, seems to be in development. The game has been in development for over a year, and since Twilight Princess is already out, it seems that this new Zelda game may be closer than we think (meaning in like 2015 we will be able to play another Zelda game).

Recently, Hideo Kojima, the mastermind behind the Metal Gear games, gave an interview regarding the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4. Here are some details.

– Kojima didn’t comment on the “young Snake” at the end of the TGS trailer, but said that the injections Snake would give himself in the neck are extremely important (meaning a difference between life and death).

– Weapons will be customizable, and according to Kojima, we will be suprised to what extent. He also said that there will be plenty of existing and under going development weapons.

– The suit that Snake will be wearing will only change in appearence, but not in size. What this means, is that you will be able to go against walls, but if you want to be an apple, that won’t work.

– Raiden will not be a playable character.

– There are concrete ideas about how MGS: Portable Ops for the PSP will be compatible with MGS 4, though Kojima revealed no more.

– The state of mind of your enemies will be important. For example, if you scare the crap out of them somehow, they won’t search for you as long.

– As it was previoulsy revealed, you can join forces with both sides in the war, and if you want, both at the same time. Most often, you will ally yourself, not with who you might think is better, but with who you think will help you stay alive longer in battle.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming in one year…

Wii launched in Europe

December 8, 2006

The Nintendo Wii has finally launched all over Europe! Though there are no details as to how many units were sold, it seems shortages are rampant everywhere. In Paris, France for example, there was bigger hype about the Wii than the Xbox 360 last year. In London, England, almost all Wiis were sold, and it will be impossible to get a system until January. This all happened at the pre-launch event(s), so if you are in London now, then chances are you won’t be able to find a Wii anywhere (except eBay) on launch day! Long lines plagued pre-launch events everywhere, such as the Virgin Megastore in Paris (pictures here), and at the HMV on Oxford Street in London as well. Happy gaming everybody!

Though the teaser premiered at the Tokyo Game Show, it has only now been made public. Versus XIII will be a part of the Final Fantasy XIII universe, which will consist of a number of games. Versus XIII has only been announced for the PS3.
