Final Fantasy XIII-2 announced

January 17, 2011

Square Enix revealed a good amount of information on their biggest franchises today during a press event they held in Japan today. The most notable of which was the announcement that they will be making a direct sequel of Final Fantasy XIII a la Final Fantasy X, called Final Fantasy XIII-2.

The first trailer and some more news after the break.

Unfortunately, no information was revealed for it other than its existence and the fact that it will be coming to both Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, but the logo appears to point to at least one new character joining Lightning in the game.

In other news, the PSP entry in the FFXIII universe is apparently still in production, as Square Enix announced a new name for it. Instead of being called Final Fantasy Agito XIII, it will be called Final Fantasy Type-0. This appears to mean that it is considered a complete spin-off title, rather than an entry in the FFXIII universe. Additionally, it will use 2 UMDs in order to facilitate the use of voiced characters, of which there will reportedly be more than 30.

Finally, Kingdom Hearts 3D for the 3DS has been further detailed. Its full title will be Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. In some gameplay news, it appears you will switch throughout the game between both Sora and Riku as the main character.
