Is Microsoft bringing out an Xbox Lite?

December 5, 2006

I was talking to a friend of mine who was interested in picking up an original Xbox. The 360 is too rich for his blood right now and he was interested in the original library. As anyone who has been to a retail store recently knows, you can’t buy an original Xbox in the store right now. With a quick look at upcoming release dates, there are more than a few titles, albeit not high profile games, aimed for release on the Xbox. Why would developers continue to support a system they knew was no longer available?

Another indicator would be the lack of full BC on the 360. These Xbox only games, of which Destroy All Humans! and DAH! 2 are included, are not playable on the 360 which makes it necessary to own an original Xbox to continue to enjoy them.

It just seems to me that it would be a great time to bring out a $99 Xbox Lite that was streamlined and in the same design as the 360. This new Xbox could even be compatible with the blade style dashboard of the 360. I think it would be a major upgrade for existing Xbox owners, I would buy one, and would make a great purchase for first time gamers that are not interested in making the Next Gen leap just yet.

I’m just living in my own world here. What do you think?
