E3 10: PlayStation Move hands-on

June 16, 2010

The PlayStation Move, Sony’s answer to the Wii Remote, is on display here at E3. We took it for a spin so we could tell you how it is! How nice of us.

The ways it’s being used on the show floor are very reminiscent of the Wii. Archery feels like Wii Sports Resort. Fighting feels like boxing. The add-on for LittleBigPlanet feels like being the Co-Star in Super Mario Galaxy. There’s not much new here, but that’s not exactly a problem.

The reason it isn’t is that Sony’s putting this functionality into first-party games, and their first-party games are pretty good. The company can’t develop for the Wii, so they do this, and we’re getting to see their spin on the gameplay.

Pointing is accurate. It feels a bit smoother than using the Wii Remote, though at times it feels like you need to overexaggerate to get it to do what you want.

Overall, it shows promise, and the price point is reasonable. We’re intrigued by it, and we’ll check it out again when it releases in a few months.
