Preview: Max and the Magic Marker (WiiWare)

Denmark-based developer Press Play recently gave us a look at a preview build of Max and the Magic Marker, an upcoming WiiWare platformer.  The concept is simple: Max traverses areas, collecting items and avoiding enemies with the help of a Magic Marker drawing shapes that Max can jump on or kill baddies with.

It comes off as a cross between Crayon Physics and LittleBigPlanet, and it's quite charming.

SB Asks: Gaming thanks

So it's the time of year when people give thanks for things.  That got us thinking: as much as we criticize and scrutinize every move developers and publishers make, we don't take much time to appreciate when they do things right.  So now's the time: what have they done that you're thankful for this year?  We want to know!

Sgt. Pepper's DLC impressions

This week saw the release of the second full album for The Beatles: Rock Band. Although not as popular as Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is a nice addition to the game. And considering the price, it might not be worth it for some, but it definitely expands the game even more with a bigger focus on vocal harmonies than the previous release.

Swag Attack: Fairytale Fights

Most of the time, when a game shows up at one of our many Snackbar Games offices worldwide, it's just the game and a slip of paper with a bit of extra information.  Sometimes, though, companies go all out.  This is one of these times.  For Fairytale Fights, they threw a poster, some fake playing cards, candy with photos on them and a small art book all into a box made to look like an old book.  Thankfully, there were no Ron Jeremy references.

Check out a photo of the package after the break.

RIP Rannie Yoo (1976 - 2009)

Often times in this industry we forget that there are real people on the other end of those email addresses that we send game or interview requests to. Today we lost one of those people. Her name was Rannie and she was one of the nicest people I never had the benefit of meeting.

When we started so many years ago, she was one of the first people to add us to their distro list and start working to provide us with assets.

You can probably find a more detailed account of what happened somewhere else, but the sort of it is that today Rannie ended her battle with cancer.

I hadn't talked to her in quite a while, but Rannie we will miss you and this world won't be quite the same without you.

Impressions: Abbey Road and Queen DLC

This week was a huge one for DLC, especially if you are a Rock Band fan. Not only did Rock Band owners get a huge Queen pack featuring ten songs, The Beatles: Rock Band owners got the first of three full albums to be released this year. Both packs are expensive, but considering how many songs you get and the quality of these songs, both are well worth checking out.
