The Radar: August 2009

July 31, 2009

We’re keeping you in the know about this month’s big releases.  Here’s what’s notable on the horizon:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled (8/5)

The side-scrolling remake from Ubisoft looks to be another strong part of Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade.

Fossil Fighters (8/10)

Nintendo copies Spectrobes, which was pretty much a copy of Pokemon.  We’re confused, but we’ll reserve judgment.

Phantom Brave: We Meet Again (8/11)

For the people that care, Nippon Ichi’s Wii remake is the only thing they’ll need this month.  For everyone else, move along.

Madden NFL 10 (8/14)

We can’t ignore this release.  It’s certainly not from lack of trying.  It’s usually a solid game, but the reception it gets tires out most hobby gamers.

Shadow Complex (8/19)

Epic’s CliffyB grew up with Nintendo, so it’s surprising that it’s been this long since the company created a game similar to a flagship NES or SNES title.  Shadow Complex will likely bring new fans to the Metroidvania genre.

Dissidia Final Fantasy (8/25)

Taking Final Fantasy to a new genre is a risk, but early word is that this PSP fighter will be impressive.

Batman: Arkham Asylum (8/25)

The month rounds out with a high-profile action title based on the DC comic.  The license may have new life after the success of The Dark Knight.

So that’s what we’re keeping an eye on.  What are you looking forward to this month?
