I will *PROMISE* Matt that he is not the only person left alive who played and loved Base Wars.
Also: Wasn’t Escape from Butcher Bay an example of a first-time studio making a movie licensed game (sort of) that wasn’t trash? Granted, said studio was basically founded by Vin Diesel, but still.
Hey, my wife bought Duck Amuck and loved it.
Man, now I’m really wishing that I was on this podcast. But I was told it would be discussing the Dreamcast list, so I made other plans Sunday night.
Do you mean Shawn?
Yeah, I didn’t notice Matt wasn’t on the ‘cast until later when someone mentioned it. I just assumed that anyone bringing up a bizarre NES robot baseball game was Matt. Sorry, Shawn!
no problem! It makes sense to assume that. Especially since I’m about the last one anyone should expect to have played any kind of bizarre or lesser known retro game!
But wouldn’t a new one as a DL game(WW, XBLA, PSN) be awesome?!
Maybe. I broke the original pretty hard. I’d make a team of all hoverbots and put a Fire Gun on my second baseman. The AI can’t dodge the never-ending stream of fire and never gets anything more than a double.
I went all hoverbot as well, and I usually went with the rocket fist until I could get laserswords. I got good enough against the AI that I tended to win every game by forfeit by the 4th inning. They always had 3 exploded players by that point.
See… maybe that’s why I liked the game so much when I normally find baseball to be a a complete waste of perfectly useable land. It never actually went to 9 innings because I kept KILLING THE OPPOSITION.
Which, in retrospect, makes me appreciate Worf’s comments in the DS9 episode “Take Me Out to the Holosuite” even more.
