Before we dig into the whys and occasional bright spots, I am going to come right out and say it. You should not play Game of Thrones. It isn’t fun, it isn’t pretty, it isn’t well-acted, and in all other regards it feels like a bargain title from the previous console generation. A lot of games have attempted to take the addictive gameplay of Civilization and wrap a fantasy game around it, but it’s been a long time since anyone has succeeded (outside of a fantasy mod for Civilization IV). Right before Max Payne 3 released, I was unsure of what to expect. I knew that Remedy, the developer of the first two games, had a distinct style, and I was curious to see how Rockstar would approach that. Thankfully, instead of attempting to recreate the style that made the series well-known, Rockstar went down their own path. Visual novels are an odd sort of genre. It’s hard to call them a game, yet at the same time, that doesn’t mean they are any less entertaining.
