
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, while a fine game in its own right, certainly had elements that felt like a first effort. After all, it was. With time to iterate and polish mechanics, as well as infuse it with new outside talent and the ideas brought with them, the sequel, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, is definitely one to watch.

Hotseat matches, long a popular option in PC games for purely practical reasons, can be a lot of fun. The problem, usually, is that they tend to get boring, especially with more people. Most of the time, you’re just sitting around, and no one likes being the third guy in line while someone takes a turn in Civilization.

Brian Provinciano’s Retro City Rampage was in development long enough that it could make a retro-inspired reference to itself. The wait’s likely been most excruciating to Provinciano himself, but thankfully it’s now over and we can give the game a try for ourselves. It’s certainly as packed with references to ’80s culture as we expected, but references are the sugar-coated candy of game experiences.
