When we last saw an original Mario Tennis title, Camelot and Nintendo had us traversing the halls and sidewalks of the Royal Tennis Academy in search of opportunities to level up our main protagonist in hopes of advancing through the school’s leader board of tennis prodigies.  It has been almost seven years since Mario Tennis: Power Tour for the Game Boy Advance uniquely blended the role-playing and sports genres, giving us a relatable sports narrative to go along with the already successful formula of Mario & friends squaring off on the tennis court.

With the storytelling of Power Tour not replicated in their new game, just what could we expect as progress with Mario Tennis Open for the 3DS?  And most importantly, would it be enough for gamers to want to come back? READ MORE

Tuesday’s Nintendo briefing brought us more on the Wii U: specifically, the game’s launch lineup (headlined by Pikmin 3, Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U), release window (“holiday”) and multi-GamePad support (though just two).  Pikmin 3 features a new type of Pikmin, four leaders to split your units between and different gameplay modes.  READ MORE

Nintendo held one of its Nintendo Direct presentations Sunday evening, giving us a look at the Wii U final hardware and menu functions before its main event on Tuesday. We have a redesigned tablet controller, now called the Wii U GamePad, as well as a pro controller, an in-game social network called Miiverse and more. Ready for this year’s E3? We’re here to help, with a look at the Big Three.

What we know: We’ll see more about the Wii U! But not the price, and not the date. Hrm. It has Pikmin 3, a New Super Mario Bros. game and some Wii Play-style minigames. For the 3DS, we know we’re getting New Super Mario Bros. 2, so we’ll see that as well, but they’re launching a new console, and that’s what we’ll see most. Oh, and there will be a weird segment where someone still talks about the DS, since there’s that pair of Pokemon games on the way. READ MORE

A while ago Sega announced a game that would capture the look and feel of the classic 16-bit Sonic games on the Sega Genesis. This game would remind us of some of our favorite gaming memories of our childhoods while creating new ones just as fun as the old. And they made a game like this. Sega put out a wonderful game that was nostalgic, but still a great game on its own merits. This game was Sonic Generations. But before that, they released this thing called Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
